Hey everyone. So I woke up this morning after letting my computer run Folding at Home while I was asleep and (assuming my computer was asleep) wiggled the mouse to get the display to come back on. Nothing happened. Computer is still on, fans running etc but nothing it being output to the display

The first time this happened (I don't remember if it was a result of Folding or not) I just put my gpu in the 2nd PCI-E slot, reinstalled the drivers and continued gaming etc deciding I would warranty the board when I wanted to xfire/sli

Now that the 2nd PCIE slot it doing the same thing and I'm stuck. Here's where I'm at

1. Boots w/o GPU, monitor plugged into the mobo and desktop shows

2. Boots w/ xfx 290 reference in PCIE1 but no display at card. Driver disc does no detect any XFX products

3. Does not boot w/290 in PCIE2 and I get mobo board beep 1 long, 3 short which as far as I can work out means "Conventional/extended memory failure" or "Video Card not detected"

http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm

4. Boots a Windforce 280 in PCIE2 but no display at card or board

5. Put the 290 back in and got the same mobo beeps

6. At some point in this process the retention clip in PCIE1 broke so I don't think I can really rely on putting anything in there any more

System Specs

z87 gryphon

4670k

hyper 212 evo

Crucial m550 boot drive

XFX r9 290 reference

EVGA 500 watt PSU

Corsair Vengeance 16g 1600mhz

I don't OC the card for Folding but I do for gaming

So do you think it's the PCIE slots or the card(s)? Please let me know if you need any more info

Eish, that sucks.

The clip shouldn't really matter, just make sure it's plugged in all the way.

Can you test the GPUS in another system to ensure they aren't problematic?

Have you tried clearing cmos or resetting your BIOS settings? always worth trying.

Unfortunately I don't have another system to test them but I'll see if I about getting a mobo from a local store to try out (and then return it)

I'll try the cmos tonight
