you may need a BIOS update to get the H81 to work

GA-B85M-DS3H, 4460 is on the support list (since F5), and BIOS version F5 is the first. You'll need to check the CPU support list for boards you're looking at, match the earliest possible BIOS version with the CPU's supported, and you'll be able to figure out whether or not it will work OTB, or if it will require a BIOS update to run the refresh chips.

Sorry I worded this wrongly. What I meant is will I get same performance and reliability(not frying etc) with 81M and i5-4460 as opposed to B85 or H97

There will be no difference in performance. VRM's are inconsequential on locked chips, especially the Intel platform. All of the boards are likely to come with a 3 year warranty if you purchase them new, and should be reliable within that time frame.

well there are cheaper H81 boards that still run realy hot on the vrm's and mosfets, even with locked cpu´s.

Asus and Gigabyte´s cheaper lowend H81 boards are an example of this.

I still would recommend to pickup a H97 board, its just a few bucks more.

They may run hotter relative to other H/B boards, but that's like saying melting ice is hotter than solid ice... It's still pretty cold.

My main point was that thermal throttling VRM's could be the only potential source of a "performance" hit with respects to a MOBO, but on any locked Intel chip + board I have yet to see an instance of that becoming a reality.

So you think I'll be fine with MSI 81M-P33?

No, you very specifically won't be as the 4460 is not natively supported by the first BIOS release. You could take a chance and hope that the updated BIOS is installed, but you're taking a fairly substantial risk unless returning it is easy for you.

Yes but I mean in regards to the physical features of this mobo, will it handle i5-4460(thermal throtting etc), that kind of things you talked about your previous post.

Yes, it should have no issues in that regard.

@kirilenko it is old and haswell refresh thing which needs bios update and also actually the price tag does not have big difference just like few bucks. and features, asrock pro 4 is a h97 board which is almost same price with gigabyte h81 but features are the same, so i go with newer board.

If you are trying to pick a cheap board... I know someone will disagree, but the mATX and ATX Asrock H97 boards are actually good. You can't go wrong.

Also, if you HAVE to get h81... This is the board to get.
