Hi all,

I have done some researching and have come up with the following parts for a budget ($650), light gaming (MIncraft) computer. Mainly I am using this computer for college however. Do you all have any suggestions on the build? Also, I know this is on the lower end of a PC so would it be better to just buy a pre-built computer than to try to build this one? I am from the US. I am planning on using a single monitor and I'll need peripherals as well as an OS but I did not include them in the budget. I need a new computer because the Chromebook is not cutting it by a long shot.

Thank you all for your help!

What else would the system be used for?

Is the optical drive really necessary?

Generally, looks fine.

Guarantee there is going to be an Intel vs AMD debate, and my two cents is don't get a G3258, and get 4 threads somehow.

Current Desktop Build | 2200G | RX 580 4GB | 8GB RAM | CTRL | Logitech G Pro Wireless

Laptop | 2018 MBA 256/16GB | MX Master

I will be using the system for school mainly. Like internet and excel spreadsheets so nothing heavy duty. I will be playing games occasionally like Minecraft. I don't think it is super necessary

It would be better to state your entire budget and plan the system as a whole including the OS and peripherals if you're going to buy them anyway. Separating budget is just another way of limiting options.

Okay, my entire budget is $800. I am looking at the OS costing $100 and the peripherals close to $50. The rest of the system will be $650

If your are focusing on school work and minecraft this is what I would chose: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/wRcwnQ

In minecraft with optifine installed and taking advantage of all 6 cores this thing will easy hit +120fps on far render distances.

You don't need a high end graphics card for minecraft (the R9 280), it is very very CPU intensive, but with a 2gb R7 260X you can still play new games like GTA V at 1080p with very high settings and hit 30fps.

I also threw in a windows license because you need that unless you want Linux or another operating system.

The power supply is very overkill but its reliable and cheap with a very good efficiency rating.

Upgrades you could do in the future would be.

-SSD

-Another 2gb R7 260X for crossfire

There is 20$ left for anything else such as.

-more fans

-bling

-more money in your pocket

What kind of peripherals do you need?

It looks pretty good. What is the benefit of getting a SSD?

The system becomes much more snappy and responsive compared to just using a hdd--it's a world of difference.
