Building a new rig and I do some light video editing ( just some silly bf3/4 stuff to keep me entertained)

The rig only has enough space for 2.5 drives so I am going to need an external drive to save the video files to ( I use the Nvidea Shadowplay )

So I am not sure if i need a drive with fast wright speed ( Something I would need using DxTory which I might use later ) or if any external usb3 drive will work.

Or should I get a 2.5 HDD to use in the system?

usb3 hard drive will work. 2.5 hdd is not the worst idea, but external would prove more useful in day to day use I think.

Just wanted to know if there would be any performance hit or access limitations (besides using the IO)

nah, usb3 is faster than the hard drive itself.
