what voltage should i set my i7 4790 manually to.

being doing prime95s and aida64s and ive been told if you don't set the voltage manually that it can pull more voltage than needed, thus giving higher temps. my i7 4790 is at stock since i couldnt get it to 4.2ghz because of only being able to tweak the base clock.

what should i set my voltage manually to, so that it doesnt pull more than required.

Anything under 1.35V depending on your cooling. It should be around 1.2V.

Can you play with cpu strap ratios on your cpu board combination?

i can play with my ratio but it only goes to a max of 40 which is the turbo speed, after that i need to change the base clock but anything over 1.024 makes my display not show on  boot. so i cant get anything more than 4.1ghz.

btw it idled at 0.731 which is low isnt it? when running prime95 it hit 1.2v.

ive manually set it to 1.025v and im getting 10-12c less which is amazing.

dont touch vcore on a locked cpu

take whatever bclk OC you can get at stock volts.

what do you meant dont touch the vcore?

im not bothered about the oc, was just saying i cant oc it, thats why ive manually set the voltage lower.

Sorry my bad

First figure out your stock turbo voltage

Set defaults

Run cinebench and whatever voltage the CPU hits under load is your stock turbo voltage

Use that voltage if your running P95 or occt.

Better yet just stress test with asus real bench

it goes from idle at 0.731v to 1.173v when running prime or occt.

i tried 1.000v which bluescreened every time and ive had one blue screen at 1.025v.

i dont wanna keep putting it up as thats just gonna make temps go higher

skip the video to 16:03, the guy gets an i7 4770k to 4.2Ghz and its running 8c cooler than mine at stock with auto voltage, hes using the noctua nh-d15 which is supposed to be a tad worse than my cryorig r1 ultimate.

P95 overvolts at default voltage settings

Use cinebench

It's not just prime95 putting my voltage to 1.173v it does it whenever my cpu hits 3.8-4ghz.

Gonna leave it set at 1.025v and if it starts playing up il up it to 1.050v.

Heard that haswell chips run hot anyway.
