Best video and/or audio codec(s) for video editing, web, and dvd

Idk if this goes here. So humor me if ye can.

What is/are the best video/audio codec(s) for video editing web, and dvd players?

I7-6700k, Asus Maximus VIII Formula, 2 x 8GB Corsair Dominator Plantinum ram, ASUS GTX 960 STRIX, sound blaster zx, 1TB boot drive ssd, 128GB/256GB storage ssd, 1TB storage HDD, 4TB of storage (backup),Windows 10 Pro,1000w psu

For web, as far as I know you need several different codecs to make it compatible - look on YouTube.com/html5 for the codecs YouTube uses. DVD players can read most codecs, especially ones you don't need to install.

For web you generally want to have h.264.

For DVD I have no idea.
