File size problem

Go to solution Solved by scottyseng,

Okay, that program tells me that the folder "System Volume Information" is taking 64,9 GB on my local drive.

What is that for?

That is for System Restore and Shadow Copies. Try:

In start search type Advanced and select View Advanced System Settings

Select the System Protection tab

Click Local Disk C in the list

Click Configure

Click Delete to delete all system restore points.

Adjust the slider to prevent it from using too much space.

Also, if you have ever put your PC into hibernation, you can try turning off and then back on hibernation (This clears out any hibernation data):

  1. Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
  2. In the search results list, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as Administrator.
  3. At the command prompt, type powercfg.exe /hibernate off, and then press Enter.
  4. At the command prompt, type powercfg.exe /hibernate on, and then press Enter.
  5. Close command prompt

Today I’m going to replace my HDD with an SSD.

So I cleaned up my C:/ drive but it keeps telling me that is still storing 138 GB but when I select all of the files on my C:/ drive it tells me that it is only 54.8 GB.

So, are there some hidden files on my disk or is there something else wrong?

I turned on that Windows shows me hidden files.

I placed some attachments to make it more clear.

Thanks for helping,

Thomas

Get a program called "Tree Size Free" and run that on the C: drive- it will tell you what takes up the space. You might have paging and hibernation files on the C: drive that take up a lot of space.
