hey ltt forums. im in need of help with my build im doing; a budget minecraft server and lan gaming pc.

now i know what you are all probably thinking "minecraft? really? why are you at a dilemma for a computer based to host that game."

me and my friend are doing things such as large world edits and "Voxelling" which takes up a lot of ultilities since a lot of chunks are updating almost all the time while we build. so i need to be able to do these high intensity actions and have no lag.

my buddget right now is around 300 dollars canadian. ( i already have the case, cooler, and a power supply that can be a placeholder till i make more money to get a dedicated one.

here are some examples of the work ive done. so you can kinda see what i mean.

my current list of parts for this build are:

cpu: Intel pentium g3258 (chosen because of how high of a clock speed the chip can get at the price, as my budget is fairly tight and that im pretty sure minecraft doesnt utilize multiple cores (quad cores or more) so this should be fine)

motherboard:  ASRock Z97M Pro4 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  (cheap and can overclock. + z97 chipset)

ram: G.Skill Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory (chepeast ddr3-1866. chose 1866mhz because minecraft uses a lot of ram and itd be beneficial for less lag)

cpu cooler: thermaltake water pro 2.0

case: Corsair Air 240 MicroATX Mid Tower Case (wanted a case that i would like since i will be upgrading internals when i have more money.) (probs shouldve just got no case but my ocd would go crazy)

gpu: not really needed imo but ill be taking this out of my main gaming pc and putting in here EVGA GeForce GTX 670 4GB Video Card sc

any help is appreciated. thanks

PC SPECS:

CPU: I7-3930K

only use the water pro 2.0 if you're going to overclock. get something cheaper if you are not. Don't go for a gpu that is 2 generations old get the 970 or 960 if you want anvidia card.

did you even read the post?

The 670 is just going to be a drain on power, it's better to leave it out really. When you run the server software, make sure you set it to use as much RAM as you have free, so likely from 6-7GB.

I don't know how well the Pentium will do with this, I'm not familiar with Minecraft servers and how they utilise cores.

I would suggest asking at a Minecraft forum as well, you may be able to get some more specific answers for your use case, but I'm not sure how good they are on actually hardware.

He clearly says that he will be overclocking. Also, there is 0 point in getting a high end card for a server build. It will use the CPU, RAM ans storage, not the GPU.
