You cannot install the OS on a spanned volume -- nor can the spanned volume occupy (part of) a disc that also contains the OS.

 

I wish you could, but given the inherent reliability issues of what is comparable to RAID 0 but without the speed benefits, I can see Microsoft's point in doing this.

the system has 3 drives in it 1 is being used as the "c" drive and two are spanned making the "d' drive im wondering if i can us the "d" drive on another os with out loosing the "spanned drive"

Oh I see. You might be able to, but I don't know. Dynamic Drives don't work with old versions of Windows, let alone other OSes entirely. Try it.
