V-Sync, Hardware VS Software?

Hey all, just wondering what your opinions of this are.

Hardware V-Sync (Via nVidia Control Panel, AMD Catalyst)

Vs

Software V-Sync ( In game settings)

They're both still software. Performance shouldn'd change IMHO. I guess if the drivers are better written than some games it would make a difference but probably not.
