What Really is the Difference?

Hey, I was wondering what the difference really is between these cards? I mean there is the obvious difference in stream processor count, but what is the realistic performance difference. Also, why does the non-x variant support Dx 12 and the X variant not support it?

IMHO both support DX12.  Performance difference, you can expect about 10-15% I think.

Both cards support DX12 perfectly. Actually, every AMD card that has a CGN architectures is DX12 tier 3, which is the maximum compliance tier.

And yeah, the 290X is quite a bit more powerful, but you can always overclock a 290 to almost bridge that gap.

There's a pretty small performance difference between the 290 and 290x.  ~5-10 FPS tops.

Of those two I would get a 290.

Edit: Actually, if you are on a budget, it'd be good to go for the 290.
