I have a dell t3400 workstation with Q6600 stock, 4GB RAM, 525W psu and ATI FireGL V3600.. I bought this pc for gaming but there is heating problem.. my pc temps are 50-55c when Idle and 65-74c when playing COD Modern Warfare but I haven't checked with latest games so it's gonna heat up even more. I've stress tested the cpu with prime 95 and the temp goes upto 90c in one minute while gpu is at 70c i.e normal when playing M.W.

I want to know what is causing the cpu to heat up? Is the processor defective or thermal is poorly when installing heatsink. The heatsink is stock.

I have 15 days to change if anything is broken so I have 13 days.. Should I exchange it for HP xw4600? will it run cooler?

Sounds like CPU thermal paste wasn't applied right. You can try following a guide to replace it yourself.

I had the same doubt since I had removed the thermal paste from cpu to see it's serial number and the shop owner didn't even applied paste after it. Thanks.

Then that's obviously your issue. Go to the shop or Best Buy/Staples/whatever and buy some thermal paste. (Or get it online.)
