If you have to go headset for convenience, which is no problem, then steelseries 7H. They sound pretty damn good for a headset and in-game is no different. The differentiation between footsteps and other stuff is very well pronounced, as well as surround locationing.

Also I've been using Razer surround for my cs and it really helps. I play in CGO.

Highly recommend as a headset :)

Razer Tiamat 7.1

Sennheiser PC 350 Special Edition

Logitech G930

Or what I would HIGHLY recommend is get the Audio Technica AD700(100$) and a seperate Mic like blue snowball(Linus uses it for comms) for another ~65$ for a perfect all around setup, with a great mic and a greater headset. The headset might seem weird to you but is excellante, great pair of headphones.

Hope it helped!

I use a CM Storm Sirus headset, and I really enjoy it. Not sure about USD, but you can pick them up in the UK for £80, so should be in your budget.

I'm sure I'm about to get flamed for using a headset rather than headphones + mic, and a 5.1 headset at that, but it does the job for me! There is also the added bonus that it can be either used with usb (via its own external amp) or 5.1 surround 3.5mm jacks if using an internal solution.

PC Specs: i7 4770k @ 4.3Ghz 1.165v, Corsair H100i + 2x SP120 PE in Pull, Asus ROG Maximus VII Hero, 8GB Kingston Hyper-X Genesis 1600mhz, X-fire Sapphire HD7950 3GB OC Dual X Edition, Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium - Fatal1ty, 60GB OCZ Agility 3, 120GB OCZ Agility 3, 480GB Seagate 600 Series, 1TB WD Caviar Black, Corsair TX850, CM Storm Trooper, Win 7 Pro. Peripherals: Microsoft Sidewinder X6 Keyboard, Logitech G700S Mouse, Sennheiser G4ME ONE Headset, Logitech Z-5500 5.1 Speakers. Phone: HTC One M8.

I would have to agree, my friend uses a CM Storm Sirus and its very very good :D!! I use it on skype with him so can confirm the mic is good. And also had the opportunity to hear the sound and that also is impressive!!

are my standard recommendation for gaming.

Will work for electronic components and parts

I've used a Logtiech G930 for about a year now and they're excellent. Mic quality good and sound quality is pretty good. I have a friend who has the wired version, the Logtiech G35 I believe, and a friend who also has the G930 and their mics sound pretty good over Skype.

If you decide to buy a mic and headphones seperate, i think modmic just got mics in stock so you can get it before its sold out. Its supposed to be a top of the line mic especially for the price($32 US).

*top of the line in it's class

Obviously a $30 mic isn't comparable to something like this:
