Hey guys,

I'm Luke, I'm Located in Sydney, Australia and am currently in the process of planing out a new build. This is the link of parts I'm currently thinking about. http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/zWF9Lk

So I'm a casual gamer, playing mostly games like The Hunter and ARMA 3, with other AAA titles that grab my eye. I also do some casual video editing of some footage of my spearfishing trips on the weekend. I'm interested in running a Mid-Ranged Overclock on the system, hence the beefed up PSU and Motherboard. id love to get the system under the $3000AUD mark but i could be persuaded out to around $3500AUD. That is including peripherals.

Let me know if I've missed any points you need or would like some more information. Looking forward to your opinions.

Cheers

Would go with a cheaper motherboard and 2 way 970s

He could do that, but why? A 980 is perfect for 1080p.

I'd get the 980 and in 2-3 years get another 980... Edit oooops didn't mean to make another post

Then

It's overkill for 1080p.....

If he were to go for 1440p then he would be good to go.

Well that's a fail because 970 sli is overkill for 1080p... For the same price I guess he could for a little more $ get a 2k monitor and sli 970... Even 970sli is overkill for 1080p

Thing is that the 980 is so freaking overpriced. Totally not worth the money, he could get the same performance with 970 SLI or even dual 290/290x

To be honest, I'm slightly hesitant to run an SLI configuration, the stuttering and hitches associated scare me off a bit, but having never used one before i am interested to hear about there advantages. Please don't take the monitor as gospel either, i was just interested in running Gsync, let me know what your thinking that's what the threads here for.

I would get a cheaper mobo and not run sli I would go sli 980s in the future and get alot cheaper ram

Why make the cutbacks on the RAM and Motherboard?

I like the idea of holding off on the second GPU until later on, does anybody have an expected release date of the GTX980Ti? hopefully that will drive the 980's price down.

Swap the psu for this EVGA. If you don't plan on SLI though then you only need 550W or so.

I would also suggest 2 x 8GB Ram rather than 4 x 4GB.

The 550w PSU proposed could handle this rig, but I wouldn't scale it back that much, especially if SLI is on the table for a future upgrade.  That said, I wouldn't go with lower than an 850w 80+ Gold rated PSU.  The more headroom the PSU has the greater longevity of the component, and the 850w+ PSU will be sufficient for two GTX 980s in SLI + CPU overclocking.

Also, Corsair is my favorite PSU manufacturer and you definitely can't go wrong with an AX or HX series PSU.  That said, I have also found EVGA G1/G2 series PSUs to be good as well.

Last thought, I love ASUS motherboards, but I think the Gigabyte Z97X-UD5H-BK would be a great choice for motherboard.  The black edition board has 168 hours of stress testing from the factory, and it may be a little less.  Not to mention it would pair perfectly with that Windforce GTX 980 you chose.

Good luck with the build.  It's a nice setup.

CPU: Intel i7 5930K MOBO: ASUS X99 Deluxe w/USB 3.1 GPUs: 2 EVGA GTX 780Ti Classifieds in SLI CPU-COOLER: Corsair H100i GTX in push/pull w/Corsair SP120 White LED Fans | RAM: EVGA SSC 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4 2800MHz PSU: Corsair AX1200 CASE: Corsair 780T White MONITORs: Dell UP2414Q 24" 4K and ASUS VE247 24" 1080p HDD & SDD: 2 x 256GB Samsung 850 PROs in Raid 0, Crucial M500 960GB SSD, and Toshiba 3TB 7,200rpm 64MB Cache HDD Optical Drives: Samsung 14x Blu-ray Player and ASUS 24x DVD-R/RW

Lee32uk,

Why change the PSU? Is there an advantage to the EVGA one? The last thing id skimp on is a psu. I have had them explode in my hands when i was a IT Technician. Not trying to knock your advice, just wondering what the justification is.

The EVGA is every bit as good as the Corsair AXi and it saves you $134 in the process. It is based on the Leadex Gold platform and is made by SuperFlower. You also get a 10 year warranty when you register it. The G2 also has hybrid fan mode. If you leave it in that setting, the fan will stay off until a certain point.

When you buy Corsair you are paying extra for the 'brand name' but you usually get a lot less for your money.

Here is another review - http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/EVGA/SuperNOVA_G2_850/1.html

Even the 1000W Platinum model is cheaper than the Corsair Axi 860W.
