Hello everyone,

I am building a workstation. Mostly I'll be using 3ds MAX, Unity 3D and Sony Vegas Pro (Photoshop too). I would also be doing occasional gaming on it as well. Should I go for ASUS MAXIMUS ROG or ASUS - WS motherboard. Following is what I have in mind. Please Surges!

Thanks,

  • Intel Core i7 4790
  • ASUS MAXIMUS VII Hero - ROG
  • Kingston HyperX Fury (Black) 2x8 (16GB) 1866MHz
  • ASUS GTX970 STRIX (OC EDITION) 4096MB
  • KINGSTON V300 SSD 480GB
  • Western Digital 2TB CAVIAR BLACK
  • Corsair AX760i
  • Cooler Master Cosmos SE

Well for starts on a work station i'd suggest a Xeon processor and possibly some ECC memory to go with it, on top of that a better SSD. Unless things like redundancy aren't a factor for you.

Edit: I cant spell Xeon

Xeon processor is not available at the moment. I would have to wait for about 3 months. and Official dealers in Pakistan are ASUS and Kingston.

budget?

Budget is not an issue at the moment. I need suggestion on the motherboard so that I would not be wasting money. My brother says to not buy ASUS Maximus boards. I am a bit confused. I don't want to buy the Maximus and the regret.

Fair enough, I wasn't aware of where you are.

In that case I hope you at least meant that the CPU you choose is the K version.

Also as I said before, the normal V300 SSD Now from Kingston are rather slow compared to the competition.

Also if budget is not a issue then why not import parts?

Okay.... K series processor (i7 4790K) and suggestion on the motherboard please.

as far as the importing is .... that would cost me around 100K to 160K more (Custom) [That I have an issue with]

For a workstation build, you're going to want to go with X99. If budget truly isn't an issue, then you'll want an X99 chip, and pair it alongside a Quadro or FirePro GPU. The 5930k is going to be a beast of a chip for you, and paired alongside a Quadro card from nVidia, you'll have one hell of a good workstation PC.

where will you be buying from?

what store?

do they have a website?

I am buying from the Official dealer of ASUS. They have a site but they only have their address and contact number. They have motherboards and they only quote the price when you call them.

Okay, I can go for X99 (ASUS RAMPAGE V EXTREME is available. wouldn't Rampage be an overkill. Is SABERTOOTH Z97 MARK 1 a good option?

If its a workstation with minimal budget issues X99 plus core i7 k chip is the way to go as they were built for workstation use and you can upgrade to xeon down the track on a board like that as well.

Everything you need to know about AMD cpus in one simple post.  Christian Member

I can afford Rampage V (only X99 board available here). I will be doing a lot of rendering, HD videos and Game development. I personally think Maximus VII is not suitable for my build. My current Desktop at home has Maximus VI. Isn't X99 old. SABERTOOTH MARK 1 has Z97 chipset. Watch the NCIX video of Linus. I don't have a budget problem at the moment, but I would love to not over spent the money.
