Hi, im looking to make a gaming Pc my processor is a Xeon E3 1240 V2 and GPU is an R9 280x. i found this motherboard intel dq67sw and im wondering if this will work for me. it has sata 6gb. i have a xeon so no overclocking. but it has a pcie 2.0 slot while my processor supports 3.0 and max ram frequency of 1333. this costs about 45$ while the P8b75M costs 85$. so what do you recon? my primary focus is gaming and Coding as i am a computer science student on a budget :/

Neither of those boards are the right socket.

You need a socket 1150 board..

@FruitBasketSilex

Nah they're both lga1155 chipsets, just one is a Sandy the other is a newer Ivy.

The E3 1240 V2 is an LGA1155.

@Stumar

Either will work but the P8B75 has more features and more likely to support your CPU out of the box. I'd go for the P8B75 personally.

PCI-E 2 vs 3 is no issue, its backwards and forwards compatible and bandwidth isn't an issue. Yet. Give it a year or two in GPU tech.

The New Machine: Intel 11700K / Strix Z590-A WIFI II / Patriot Viper Steel 4400MHz 2x8GB / Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC w/ Bykski WB / x4 1TB SSDs (x2 M.2, x2 2.5) / Corsair 5000D Airflow White / EVGA G6 1000W / Custom Loop CPU & GPU

The Rainbow X58: i7 975 Extreme Edition @4.2GHz, Asus Sabertooth X58, 6x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3-1600 @2000MHz, SP 256GB Gen3 M.2 w/ Sabrent M.2 to PCI-E, Inno3D GTX 580 x2 SLI w/ Heatkiller waterblocks, Custom loop in NZXT Phantom White, Corsair XR7 360 rad hanging off the rear end, 360 slim rad up top. RGB everywhere.

Huh, indeed you're right. Could've sworn the 1240v2 was an 1150.

I'd go with your recommendation then.

Don't worry, you're not crazy. There is an E3 1240 V3 that is LGA 1150 lol. Just to mess with your head.
