The fan my CPU cooler (stock) isn't going as fast as it can/should, even when the CPU is reaching...unpleasant temps.

It once went over 3000 RPM but now only reaches a bit over 2000. Is there any reason for this?

Put ur finger on the cooler's plate, which is in contact with the cpu.

If it's hot - u're loading it with something insane (replace thermal compound, reseat cpu cooler), otherwise it might be a bug, try looking at temps in bios.

90 is toasty but nothing too bad.. Depends on the cooler you have and the ambient.. My stock 3770k (don't need an OC at the mo) hit's 80c on a corsair H110 because of the ambient..

As for the fan speed.. did you change the setting to quiet or similar? did it start reducing gradually or all of a sudden?

I don'T PreSS caPs.. I juST Hit THe keYboARd so HarD iT CriTs :P

Stock cooler, ambient is quite low atm (winter). I'm sure I didn't change anything and it just stopped going high (RPM) randomly.

Only things I can really think of are if there were some settings for the fan controller changed (or if a bios or software update may have affected the setting)

Or if it's clogged with dust or something that would restrict the RPM it's reaching

Or if the fan is just dieing..

Try go into your BIOS and check what the settings are at around fan control.

Other than that you could try find a replacement to test it locally. or buy an after-market cooler that will stay cool and quiet compared to the stock one (though stock these days isn't as bad as it used to be..)
