G-SYNC appears to be technically superior at this time, although it is certainly more expensive, and the graphics cards are more expensive as well.

G-Sync is technically superior due to a higher refresh range, and other reasons.

Here for more - http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphics-Cards/Dissecting-G-Sync-and-FreeSync-How-Technologies-Differ

However, your probably not gonna notice the difference much unless you really try to see it.

I wouldn't take G-Sync v Free Sync in your GPU upgrade decision tho.

Looking to upgrade my gpu in the next couple of months. Not sure which side to choose.

As Glenwing said, right now GSync wins but you're going to pay for it. Freesync is not ready yet. The monitor specs are all over the place (no consistency), and there aren't enough cards to support it.

G-Sync has a larger refresh rate range for now than Freesync has. But just see for another update for freesync. i hope the refresh rate range will be improved soon.

The key difference is what happens when you drop to low frame rates.  A G-sync screen remains synced to the GPU all the way down to 2fps.  With free sync it only remains synced to the GPU until you hit the panels minimum refresh rate.  For IPS panels this is really high at 35-55hz most are 40-50hz.
