PSU Wattage?

Go to solution Solved by Aniallation,

I've tried some PSU calculators but they don't include the GPU I'm gonna use (GTX 960) and I also would like to hear some other opinions as I made my first post yesterday and got great feedback almost instantly!

Ours does lol http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/199255-how-many-watts-do-i-need-check-here/

Here's my build, let me know how much wattage I should get and if you have a suggestion that'd be great too!

But for the sake of my wallet no more than $70 and at least 80 Plus Bronze.

Honestly for that single 960, you won't need any more then a 430. http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-power-supply-cx430m

I'm generally new to the PC gaming community, and I plan on buying around an $800 gaming rig, but I am stuck on the PSU. The reason is that I'm not sure what wattage to get as I know you don't want too much and you definitely do not want too little. I've tried some PSU calculators but they don't include the GPU I'm gonna use (GTX 960) and I also would like to hear some other opinions as I made my first post yesterday and got great feedback almost instantly!

get an XFX TS 550w, cheap, high quality, and i think it might be able to handle 2-way SLI 960s if you want (not sure)

the minimum i would recommend is a 500w, for your system it would have plenty of headroom for overclockiness of the GPU and also an unlocked CPU if you get one in the future

and BTW you build looks pretty damn solid

also the gtx 960 is good for 1080p, but the r9 280 has more raw performance.

also don't worry if the PSU is non modular, you can just shove all the cables down in the basement of the s340

A 500w would be more than sufficient for that build

Specs: CPU: AMD FX 6300 Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A DS3P RAM: HyperX Fury 16GB 1866MHz GPU: MSI R9 270 OC edition Case: Sharkoon VS3-S SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB HDD: 1TB Caviar Blue PSU: Corsair CX500W

Thanks! I was thinking about posting to see whether I should go for the r9 280x, as I've seen it outperform the 960. But the 280 doesn't look as good in the benchmarks I've seen. I think I'll stick with the 960 though.

if you dont play anything too extreme at 1080p, like skyrim with 100+ texture mods, or like to play in an upscaled resolution, the 960 will be perfect for 1080p

Yeah I think I'll be fine. Mostly gonna play non-complex games like CS:GO, Minecraft or League. 960 might be a bit overkill but I plan maybe also doing some recording and I wanna make sure I get good framerates (100+)
