SSD or better GPU?

Go to solution Solved by x Relentless Xx,

I plan on buying an $800 gaming build with a GTX 960 and a 250GB Crucial BX100 SSD. But I also saw another $800 build that did not have an SSD, and used that extra $100 dollars to upgrade to a GTX 970. This has made me reconsider, so should I kill the SSD and upgrade? I know I won't be playing any massively graphic-y games, probably just CSGO, minecraftarrow-10x10.png, League and other non-complex games, but the thought of not having to worry about any game not being able to run on my PC with that GTX 970, just in case I do try higher res games, is just too persuading. I don't know for sure that I won't play any super graphic intense games because I am new to the PC gaming community. Let me know if I should cut the SSD or not, and please let me know your reasons why, as I love learning new things about PC's. I've never built one but I've been researching a lot, and I have to say, I feel like I can hang. :)

This is my first post so any feedback would be great! And this is my build just in case you need to know more.

That right there just answered your own question, get the GTX 960 with the SSD. Considering that Mechanical HDD's are the biggest bottleneck in any computer nowadays. a GTX 960 will blow all of those games out of the water. a GTX 970 is a waste of money if those are the games you will be mostly playing. Don't spend money on something you don't need. The SSD will benefit you way more than a 970.

You should get the better Grpahcics card now, Because if you get an SSD, you will have to make back the price of the old card PLUS the extra 100. Much easier to get 100$ later

“When life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons, what the hell am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man who’s gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I’m gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!”

Not Really

(Now the Price isn't the focus, the Speed is however)

Yes, really. i have a raptor, its still a bottleneck and will never be as good or benefit as much as an SSD

BETTAR GPU MOAR PWER

I don't think I'll need a bigger PSU if I get a 970. The PSU calculators I used didn't include the 960 so I chose the 970 just to make sure I have enough wattage.

I know most of the feedback said to get the 970, but this is a really good point. For the games I'm gonna be playing the 960 is already a very good GPU. And if I do plan on playing higher res games, I'm sure the 960 can handle the heat enough for the game to be at least playable until I can save up for a 970. But like I said, I think I'll stick to those non-complex games. The feedback on this was absolutely amazing. Thank you all so much!

I meant more horsepower

24 fps for that "cinematic" feel

After a couple weeks of behavioral sciences at my school I can easily conclude my parents need to grow up.

for the games you will be playing, you might as well skip the gpu altogether and play on integrated for now. Then in the future when you want to play high demand games you will have saved a bit more and can afford a 980 :P

Lol haha guess that's true but I still want decent frame rates at max settings on these games. I'm sure integrated intel graphics will make them somewhat playable.
