Planning X99 Build

Hi,

I am planning to build a X99 based gaming PC. I am aiming for a price tag of 2000 $. I hope to use this system for the next 5 years so it would probably be nice to have some upgradeability. As already mentioned I want an X99 build. I would like an Intel CPU and a Nvidia GPU. I would like 16 GB to start of with and upgradeable to 32 GB.

okay. First of, don't get X99.

 

get a 4690k, 8gb ram and a 980 or two.

Don't go X99, go for the i7-4790k on Z97, you can get your 32GB Ram and squeeze two GTX980s into that price point, or even 1x GTX Titan X, you're not going to benefit at all from X99 for gaming unless you're going for the 3-4way SLI setups, which can be done on a High-end Z97 board. For gaming you want fewer faster cores, not many slower cores.

For gaming they are the exact same because the only difference is hyper threading and games don't use that

If you look at benchmarks there are actually some where the 4690k wins over the 4790k by margin of error
