so i have an old core i7 920 is it time to upgrade or should i wait more 

 

if i should upgrade what processor should i get

 

what programs i use

 

adobe suite all of it

 

video edting

 

gaming

 

virtual machines

 

i already have a i7 5960x

 

so dont say that trying to stay in the z97 platform

why does it matter that you already have a 5960x, either get another one or get something else. Don't be a turd to people who are TRYING TO HELP YOU and then expect service with a smile.

It's hurt my head trying to decipher.

Starts talking about x58, then references X99 he has (or his dad does), then mentions he wishes to stay with Z97.

 

Assuming OP has used poor terminology in this case, I think he wants a consumer i7 upgrade path and doesn't want to do down the extreme i7 path, presumably due to cost limitations.

 

Personally I just upgraded my i7 920 to x5670 xeon 6 core (yes staying x58) and it's a fantastic upgrade for little outlay, should push out the life of this system another year or two.
