SSD Storage or Raid 0

Go to solution Solved by Speaker1264,

Raid 0 would be all around faster, and without having to deal with saving things to two separate drives.

If you were to do two drives separately then it would be better to put games on the storage drive, since the OS won't be constantly reading and writing from it. The drive with the OS installed on it is always going to have some overhead because of that.

But since we are talking SSDs here neither of these things will be noticeable in any real world scenario.

If you do RAID 0 and one drive fails, you lose all data.

So I bought 2 Samsung Pro 1TB SSD's.

should I put them in raid 0? or would it be better to put 1 as a primary drive and 1 as storage?

Separate Question: If i were to put 1 as a storage and install games on it, does it affect the speed when loading programs/games?

Hey there,

Depends on what you need your system for. For most consumer usage types a single 1TB SSD is already fast enough and the cons of RAID0 are far more than the pros. For gaming you would hardly notice the difference in loading times as they would decrease in half (roughly) which is just a few seconds when we are talking about SSDs (RAID0 makes more sense when used on HDDs).
Even if you go with RAID0 I would strongly recommend having backups of your important data because of the reasons mentioned above. :)
