So I want to make a FreeNas server for my family's photos and everything and also put plex on it for movies and sending photos from our phone there and everything. I heard from Linus's 48+ TB insaine local storage drive video that you need like 6Gb of ram and one GB of ECC ram for each TB of storage I have. Is this true and would it limit my options on what norther board and CPU I pick?

No, how is is compared to FreeNas? Is there a plex client?

FlexRAID runs under Windows as a drive management client, calculating and arranging data protection across PPU's and DRU's. For more, have a look at @looney 's thread in the guides section.

Because it runs under Windows, you just use the Plex server client like I am doing. Flex also allows you to expand the array as you go and use drives of different sizes.

Sounds really cool, I have two noob questions lol, I'm pretty sure I know the answer but here they are: can it run headless and can I also run plex's HTPC to play files directly onto a TV?
