Hello forum, I'm new.
My Gpu is the MSI 1GB Radeon HD 7790 and it runs well ever since I got it except for now. Summer is here and now I can't even run any game with detailed graphics because if I do, the temperature rises and game begins to freeze due to the heat. When I touch the PCB, it's so incredibly hot and I'm not sure if that's normal. What can I possibly do because I even turned on a desk fan on high facing the opened case and it still gets too hot. Any tips guys?

Did you use a program like MSI afterburner to check the temperature of the GPU itself and see if that is overheating?

soundlike your heat sink isnt mounted correctly...either return it for a different one or reseat the heatsink. Has the pc had any major bumps done to it recently......

It idles at 43  degrees Celsius.. when I run a game (BF3) the card goes as high as 63 degrees Celsius..as far as I know.

63 degrees is pretty cool under and normal under load. you could try some different drivers if you are running beta or very a very old one that wasn't stable. if that fails then its probably a bad card in this case so you might just send it back.

Yeah, 63 is relatively good compared to higher end cards which end up in the high 70s.

Video cards are supposed to get hot, thats what they do :P

Also, don't touch the PCB while the computer is running, actually, don't touch it at all for that matter. You could accidentally short something while its running, and I've heard the oils from your skin isn't good on PCBs.

Old shit no one cares about but me.

Gotcha. So what's considered too hot for a GPU?

Gotcha. So what's considered too hot for a GPU?

When a GPU gets to around 90 or above I'd consider it too hot. I've heard that bad things only happen around 100 degrees or up, but its best to be safe. The cooler the GPU the longer it will last

As for the game freezing up and slowing down, that can also be caused by programs running in the background.

Do you run the game with Vsync on? if you do, the game will lock to 30fps if it wants to drop below 60, that might be your problem.

Old shit no one cares about but me.

You're fine, my msi 560 hawk goes 80* in the summer... The pcb ambien temperature goes over a 100, and I have no problems whatsoever.

The freezing and crashing problem is due to the card itself, you can't expect to play everything on ultra with it, it's just not capable of it, regardles what the manufacturers say.

Keep them vents spinning, and carry on.
