Earbuds under the helmet

Go to solution Solved by KaminKevCrew,

For earbuds, I would recommend something designed in the Westone, or Shure style. They sit almost entirely in the concha bowl of your ear, so they are extremely comfortable, even if you sleep in them. Honestly though, I would recommend getting some noise attenuated ear plugs. Noise Attenuated, or "tuned" earplugs quiet all frequencies by more or less the same amount. It's the kind of thing that people wear to concerts and stuff so that they can still hear all of the sound and detail, but it isn't quite so loud. Companies like Etymotic make those, but the ones they make wouldn't be suitable for a helmet. I would go with a custom molded one from somewhere like 1964 ears. (Or you could get a Custom In Ear Monitor (CIEM)). Any of those would probably suit you just fine. The tuned earplugs would probably be best as far as riding goes, since you'll still be able to clearly hear your surroundings, they just won't be as loud. (the 1964 ears ones are adjustable between something like 6db and 30db of noise isolation.)

Hey!

This has been posted before, but yeah...

I was wondering if some of you guys could give me some of your experiences with earbuds to have under the motorcycle helmet?

I kind of want to spend max.150 USD, but I sure can go over if there are some better options.

They don't need to be the best sound. Just need to be sort of a low profile, or something that you guys have tried under a motorcycle helmet.

(I saw this post. But felt like asking too for tips. : http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/127528-in-ears-for-under-helmet/)

Thanks in advance!

If your thinking of danger atm, say you fall off your bike.  The earbuds would give your ears a NASTY time.  one would need a release point that jerks on the helmet and releases instead of tearing out your ears.

For the Best builds and Price lists here is a world where many points of the price have been predefined already for your convenience!

Dangerous as hell I'm guessing

The danger is surely something to consider. But most people I know of use either earbuds or some sort of noise protector. Due to the fact that some people just find the air way too loud when they pass 100 mph.

Some driving schools even force you to wear some sort of earbuds for communication purposes.

My helmet has a feature when you pull a red little cloth piece, it pulls out the interior around your neck. Just in case of someone trying to jerk your helmet off. And it has a little extra space on each side of your ears, just so you can wear earbuds without them feeling too weird.

some sort of noise protector.

That's what you're looking for then: http://www.amazon.com/Hearos-Ear-Plugs-Xtreme-Protection/dp/B000NP79YM/ref=sr_1_1?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1431180792&sr=1-1&keywords=ear+plug

Just be careful, too much isolation, and you won't hear crucial sounds, like horns, or train sounds.

Indeed. Got a pack of 5 for a couple of years ago. Works perfect :P

But the isolation was a point I forgot to mention in the first comment... I have been driving a bike for 15 years now. Plus bicycle all year around since I was a baby. I used to wear a pair of Koss Porta Pro. These were great for bicycle since they just have that thin metal bar that goes over your head, and in my opinion... No isolation.

Very nice to have under the skiing glasses for example. Yes. Skiing glasses with bicycle. I know it sounds rediculous. But probably the best thing I ever started doing. Here were I live. It easily falls down to -30c in the winters. And having my eyelids freeze together and Snow all over my face. That's not too fun :P So there's my old story about getting around the snowy weather, cold winter, and wanting to listen to music for the 50 minutes to school I used to do.

But just had a question, but guess most people vote against lol

Hey! New SIgnature!

I'm supposedly a person on the Internet, but you'll never know if I'm human or not ;)
