Speed

Go to solution Solved by LasersPewPew,

I want to optimize my internet performance. I spend a lot of my time playing games and I almost never have lag, however I think my internet could be better. Ive found some wierd things, I just mesaured my speed and with ethernet cable the download speed was 2.01Mbps, however without it it was 20.18 Mbps (i did it sevral times, different results, but wireless always better). This mya be due to the cable, yet, i also suspect my router (or modem) isnt really good (it is the one my internet provided gave me). Also another issue is that even with 20 or 10 Mbps on the test, downloading a game on steam goes as fast as 2.4 Mbps and 1 on average. What can I do to improve my speed? I have no lag while playing, Im mostly concerned to have faster speed while downloading games.

Thx, I really appreciate your help guys :D.

If you're running speedtest.net as your network benchmarking, by default they measure speed in Mbps. You can change it to MB/s which is different from Mbps.

Steam however like all downloading programs measures in Bytes so 2.4MB/s in steam would be around 19.2Mbps which is around the same speed you are getting in Speedtest.

Have you tried a different cable to rule out potential cable issues?

No, I havent :/, I will need to buy a new one. However I just measured it again and got 20Mbps with etherent as well as with wireless. Although I just realized I payed for 10Mbps and Im getting 20, so Ill leave it like that.

Sorry for the trouble and thx.
