GPU: Does size matter?

Do you guys think there are any disadvantages in buying a Gygabyte GTX 970 mini-ITX than the full sized one?

I know it will get a bit hotter but the maxwell arquitechture enables good temperatures anyway, right?

The smaller ones get hotter and thermal throttle more. Get the bigger one unless your case won't allow it.

Seriously, it's the same GPU but maybe factory OC won't be the same and the temps could be higher than a larger one.

You're only able to make a cooler so small before the card overheats regardless of architecture. Plus you would miss out on all the good overclocking that Maxwell offers.

Depends on what you need if you can get the normal size get that one, but if you're getting small form factor PC then Mini-ITX size doesn't hurt.

I doubt there would be any issue with heat. Most of these third-party air coolers are seriously overbuilt for such efficient cards, anyway. It probably matters a lot more that your case and fan configuration allows for a lot of cool airflow.

Reduced cooling, less room for various components (power management and the like) which also compounds the heat issue (more heat in smaller area with a smaller cooler)

 

If you can fit a normal one in.. do so.

I wonder if a Kraken G10 will fit on a mITX card. Technically the mounting holes should be the same, but VRM cooling might be tricky.
