Windows 8.1 OEM hardware requirement changes

GoodBytes

Microsoft has updated the system hardware requirement for Windows 8.1 to OEMs

Starting later this year, we will see computers that will make use of the new features of Windows 8.1, such as:

- support for NFC

- biometric authentication;

- InstantGo (the renamed and updated Connected Standby capability)

- Portrait-mode enhancements

- "Precision Touchpads" (we don't know what it means, but its a must for tablets on ARM, and optional for x86-64 tablets and devices)

Beside that,

- All devices with Wireless, MUST have Bluetooth

- Front-facing 720p camera or better, on all tablets, laptops, and all-in-ones.

- Higher-fidelity audio requirements for speakers and microphones

- TPM 2.0 on all devices

- WDDM 1.3 drivers for GPU (so that means, no reboot needed when installing/updating drivers)

I installed Windows 8.1 on my touchscreen laptop and have been enjoying it a lot. I hope Microsoft continues to make Windows 8 a more cohesive experience.

I agree as well. I have it on my laptop (5 years old, no touch screen). I think Microsoft is now focusing on balancing the OS with all devices it runs on.

Microsoft needs to add an SSD as a requirement. Even say 16GB as cache... It would make the world a better place
