Which GPU and CPU combo?

Go to solution Solved by niofalpha,

One question would I gain or lose anything from getting the Xeon 1231v3? I know for the most part Xeons can't be overclocked well, but wouldn't be better to just grab the 4790k with the 970? Just curious on why you suggested the Xeon seems rather appealing looking at it now since it has the same specs as the 4790k except for the clock speed and a lower price tag.

Nope! Nothing other than the ability to Overclock, and a small clock speed.

You gain several features from it too, 99% of which you will never use!

And in games the performance difference is slightly better infavor of the Xeon.

I am debating on whether or not to get a GTX 970 with a 4790k or a GTX 960 (or a R9 280) with a 5820k. I plan to edit a couple of videos and stream every now and then. I also intend to play games that aren't necessarily demanding like League of Legends, or even World of Warcraft. I just needed some input on which combo I should get since I am in bit of a predicament myself. I would really appreciate the help on choosing a one of the combinations!

P.S.

If I go with the 5820k combo with either graphics card I would like to mention I'd most likely using 8GB of RAM with that combo and if I were to go the 4790k I would go for 16GB just so it could stay within my budget.

970 with i7 4790k because you will benefit more from the more powerful GPU, with the 5820k you would probably experience some bottleneck on the CPU with the GPU you would have.

i5 4690k with gtx 980 for gaming, you want to go for the best gpu possible. it can still edit videos from time to time or worst case scenario, get a xeon e3 that has i7 features at i5 price with a gtx 980.

WoW is pretty demanding on the CPU side for things like raids, BGs, and a couple other things. If you're looking at that as your primary game I'd recommend a 4790k with a GTX 970/980. If you stream WoW and do raiding or BGs while streaming (frequently), then consider a 5820k with a 960. WoW's not really demanding on the GPU side of things, just on the CPU side.

If you're going to play more big titles (like CoD, BF, Shadow of Mordor, The Witcher, etc.) then it'd be best to go for a better GPU like a GTX 970 or 980 and a 4790k. The 4790k still kicks ass even with really CPU intensive games while live streaming. Hopefully this info helps. :)
