Hi

I have a Dell Vostro 3700. There is one hell of an awful screech it produces on boot and a coil whine thats driving me nuts on idle. I thought it was at first the SSD but it turns out it was not. It was in the CPU/Ram area. What is making this awful screech and is it possible to stop it without buying new parts? (No im not going to put on headsets either - will ruin ma neat hair in the mornings)

Could be a coil whine. And if it is there is no way to fix it.

Are you sure that you have an SSD and not an HDD?

Since HDDs are known to make horrid noises when they are close to failing.

Yes its a Kingston V300 SSD - upgraded in December

Then it's most likely a fan issue.  Are you able to remove the back of the laptop to take a look at what the problem could be?  Could be dust, something clipping the fan blades, etc.

Here is a guide on YouTube for how to disassemble a laptop similar to yours:

Otherwise I'd take it into wherever you bought it from and have them take a look at it.

I clean the fan, replace thermal grease, clear dust from the pc and rebuild it every 3-4 months. Did it a few days ago most recently. Problem was before then and after.
