Storms and my Pc

Go to solution Solved by DevilishBooster,

the brand or the idea of having a ups?

i added to op that i have been using a surge protector from day one bought it with my pc but the brand is meh huntkey 8/master/slave something/ after the psu started acting up it was tripping constantly so i switched out for a belkin one

i have done the power calculator and it is not really helpful the min reccomended specs of the graphics card is 600w but most of the time it wont use anywhere near that so im no sure

The one I generally use is the one by Outervision. Cooler Master has it linked on their website, but it's down for maintenance right now.

If the recommended specs for the GC are 600W, then I would get a 750W UPS and you should be just fine. If you have a 80 Plus Platinum then it should be efficient enough that a 750W will give you enough time to save and shut down, but double check the specs, and if you're not sure just email the company to ask.

so a lightning storm killed my psu great...

even though i have a surge protector go figure

so im looking into getting a ups for when my pc is back up and running so it wont happen again

but i have no idea how much va/wattage ups i need, but the price goes up with the wattage

i only need enough time for a safe shutdown and i want dirty current protection because this buildings electrics are terrible

i was looking at this not a bad price and from the place i bought my pc so i trust em but i dont know if the brand is any good http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1120&products_id=27018

thanks for any help

-snip-

I'm not sure on the UPS, but you could try using a PSU calculator and then go a couple hundred watts above that number.

Don't you have your computer plugged into a surge-protector power strip?

i worked out from max wattage the max load of my system is 740w i have a router, one montor and a room fan or ps3 in the other slot
