I have an old asus P6X58D-E motherboard. It supports DDR3 up to 2000MHz. link

I need tight timings and so was looking into Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR3-2133, CL8 - 16 GB Kit (4 x 4 GB). link

They're the only ones I can purchase around here that are what i'm looking for.

So I thought it's possible to underclock them to 2000MHz so that they can work with my motherboard, but on the official site only Z77, Z87, X79 platforms are listed as compatible. So does that mean they won't work or does the list only show compatibility at full speed?

Should I expect problems?

Any help would be appreciated.

i would think all DDR3 would work with any DDR3 motherboard, just not at full speed

yes but you will only be able to use 3 or 6 stick if you want them to run in triple channel, so you could leave one stick out or buy another 2X4gb kit.

I also thought that it should work with any DDR3 motherboard. It's just that the compatibility list made me suspicious.

Tnx.

Compatibility lists for ram should die in hell. Its logically impossible to make list that would be 100% accurate and have all ram that work listed on it.

Well yes but it was the other way around. It is the list of compatible motherboard platforms or chipsets for a given ram. So it doesn't have to be a long list.

Still. They would need to update it whenever new chipset is launched and list all chipsets of that generation.
