So I was watching a video on my PC and I started to get motion blur like this.

I tried watching it on my TV downstairs and had no motion blur.

The motion blur usually happens during action scenes which can be really annoying when you are trying to watch.

The PC's monitor has a 2ms response time and I doubt that HDMI is causing the motion blur ... any ideas?

thats not motion blur

thats 60i instead of 60p

interpolation makes high movement videos look like this crap, even 30fps looks better

probably an issue with the video conversion

can you test with other videos/monitors?

I am playing off a DVD if that makes any difference ... I was using VLC and it just happened so I wasn't sure what exactly was going on .... Why would it be playing at 60i off a DVD?

no idea, probably some setting in the player trying to convert 30p to 60i for better framerate

but obviously it makes it look like crap

not sure what setting it would be though

I didn't use the quote since you were the only other person to post.

Wouldn't it be 24p rather than 30p? I looked through all of the setting on VLC and saw nothing on interpolation (in fact people have apparently been requesting it for the past 5 years). Is it possible that the issue could be the fact that the videos came from Japan?

yeah i dont get notified that you replied if you dont quote :P

true it would be 24p, then it might still be making it 48i or 60i

idk if the disks would actually be recorded with interpolation, you could check by playing it on a normal DVD player instead of PC, or try a different media player

I tried an episode on the Blu-ray player downstairs earlier today and had no interpolation type issues. I tried disabling the Accelerated video output (Overlay) in VLC and it didn't fix it. I hate WMP so that is out of the question and MPC-HC looks like it is 15+ years old .... any other good video players you can recommend that have simple hotkeys and don't look like they were pulled from the stone age?

Thats interlacing. Thats what the i in 720i or 1080i stans for. (p stands for progressive 'full images')
DVD's in general are most likely interlaced.

Im not sure about VLC and (de-)interlacing, but in general VLC is a pretty crappy player, when it comes to the renderer. (because its mostly 1:1 from the decoder)

Just get MPC-BE and MadVR and you are way better of watching your DVD's on 1080p (or higher) screens and anime in general then with VLC or WMP anyway.

If you still have trouble with deinterlacing in the MPC, just look for guides on the interweb, there should also be plenty.

There are some more advanced / accurate programms for deinterlace but if you won't work with the video afterwards and just try to watch it, there shouldn't any problems using the deinterlace from the media player.

As it has been said before that's interlaced video not motion blur.

VLC has a way to get rid of that crap, go to Video and then Deinterlace and turn it on.
