I want the opinions of others, Not suggestions on a purchase.

Upgrade Now or Later?

I currently have a Q6600 @ 3.21Ghz 1.333Volts and it runs most of my games well (except a few like Sins of a solar empire when giant battles happen or The Long Dark before the new Unity or Unturned; a not-missed game.)

I have a GTX 660 paired with it and in general, they pair up very well.  Usually, I am not hampered by it or my PCI-E x16 1.0 and storage is not an issue either.  I don't bother playing AAA games because I regard them as worthless.

Seeing as this is my situation I also have a desire for more!  I can afford more too and 7 years is very old for any piece of technology and I want to see what it's like to play Skyrim at 60 FPS!  Or Unturned, DayZ, Arma, some other demanding games and watch the beautiful and massive battles of Sins of a solar empire.

Being my logical self- I say Wait, Upgrade next year and go off to college with a brand new PC + Skylake or Zen.

Being my Human self- I say GO!  Buy now!

What do you guys think?

Now or Later?

Considering how Haswell is nearing the end of it's era and Skylake is so close to being released, I'd wait it out for Skylake / Zen.

Really CPUs have not really gained that much in the past few years, I say go for it. If anything GPUs seem like the only thing waiting to upgrade, since they change so fast. So maybe CPU now, GPU later? Honestly Skyrim 60 FPS is great, even Haswell would be great.

I was going to say wait, but then I saw the party about going off to college. I would say get a z97 setup right now, and enjoy the hell out of it before you go to college and have no time to play games anymore. Just my two cents.

You will see a huge improvement in your experience. The Q6600 was an awesome processor in its day, but it can't hold a candle to current generation processors.

Isopropyl alcohol is all you need for cleaning CPU's and motherboard components.  No, you don't need [insert cleaning solution here].  -Source: PhD Student, Chemistry
