I always get the urge to upgrade every 2 years. However, I feel like my 7970 is serving me just fine. I only have a 1680x1050 monitor so it's not like I need a card with more than 3GB of VRAM anyway. Can you guys convince me not to splurge on a GTX 970? :D

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Pretty capable: The 7970 it's basically the same card as the 280x and I'm pretty sure it will become the 370x eventually, so I think that for your current monitor it's more than fine. I'd upgrade to a 1440p and a 970 or 290x later on if I was you.

Get a better monitor instead. I don't suppose you spend all day staring at the graphics card.

1050p is so close to 1080p that I just can't bring myself to waste money on a new monitor. 1920 x 1200 isn't really that popular and 1440p is too expensive :(

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

You can splurge on a 970 but not a 1440p display?

HD7970 is basically a R9-280x... which are very good 1080p GPU's. Better than GTX-960's.

I'd say you'd be best off either going for a 1920x1080 monitor at around 24" or a 2560x1440 monitor. You'd see no increase from a 970 with your current monitor, as in, it'd be a waste of money until you have a better screen.

Don't really see the benefit because my desk is too small for a 27" 1440p monitor

1440p doesn't necessarily have to be 27"?

I'm still using 7970 also. I dont have any issues playing games at 1080p  But I also feel that upgrade bug.Im waiting for the AMD 3xx series tho. I dont wanna buy a 970 now and have AMD come out with something better.

AMD already has two cards that are better than the 970. ;)

One of them isn't fair though.(295x2)
