help! very high temps on a h80i

My friend has a new pc, and well we overclocked it. and got very high temperatures. and i don't think this is normal temps for a h80i. we hit 90degC. which too high for comfort.

but idle temps stay at around 30s mark.

Possible problems with this?

any help is much appreciated.

specs:

i5-4690k OC'ed to 4.5Ghz. Vcore at 1.275V
Gigabyte Z97-D3h
G.Skill RipJawZ 2133Mhz
Seasonic M12- 620W
AeroCool Xpredator
Corsair H80i

Ambient temp is at 25degC(they have an aircon running)

Don't use Prime95.

Try Aida64.

Also, since this is a "new" pc - why a H80i? They're shite.

Shot through the heart and you're to blame, 30fps and i'll pirate your game - Bon Jovi

Take me down to the console city where the games are blurry and the frames are thirty - Guns N' Roses

reseat the block with new thermal paste ofc.

Oh yeah and what he said, temps should be much better in Aida and way more reliable.

If they are okay in aida you don't have to do anything.

First, the h80i has only a 120mm radiator, so you're probably overtaking what it can reasonably handle. Plus Prime95 is kind of a "worst case scenario" test, so the temperatures you reach running that shouldn't significantly higher than what you'll see running games and applications. How quickly did you reach the 90C mark from idle (low 30s you said)?

Those temps are about what i'd expect for that overclock on a H80i testing with P95 - note that you will never get that high in any other application, P95 is designedf to push your CPU above it's normal thermal limit

really? h80i is shit? but ive seen some reviews of it and it looked good. and its the best 120mm thick rad by corsair. >_> plus here in our place coolers are pretty rare. they only sell corsair and cooler master ones. plus he let the shop assemble it so i have a feeling the TIM thats pre applied was removed or i dunno.

uhm. it took us around 15mins to reach those temps. from idle.

well. yes i guess. we were stress testing the system to make sure the OC was stable. but we didnt expect the temtps to soar that high. i was expecting 85degC max. it is a watercooler after all.

wow you are still downloading? :D

thats some amazing internet you got there.

Imho H80i should do better. However my h100 isn't really that great either. When OC'ed to 4.7ghz my 2600k reaches almost 90°C too. But that is with a LOT of voltage since it's not really an awesome chip i got.

With devils canyon cpus, using prime 95 or older versions of aida64 without setting your voltage to manual, ie leaving it in adaptive, will cause your voltage to increase by a large margin due to how the programs are prioritized by the cpu. Like others have said, but I just thought I would give the reason.

Those temps are fine, I let mine get to 90 easily when I OC but then again I don't mind high temps, and like other people said they will never get that high when doing other stuff, those are made to stress it and make the CPU hot.
