Equipping the helmet isn't required anymore to access AC, you spawn with it. You can access AC by pressing ESC and selecting it, or stepping into the newly added sim-pod somewhere in your hangar (most likely next to the holotable?).

so you cant get in to your ship and fly off? dam it lol

Nope, Arena Commander is a simulator in the game. Game within a game :)

When the PU launches, then you'll be able to actually fly out of your hangar.

 

After walking around those hangars for more than a year now, my biggest desire is to fly through those damn doors. It's the most anticipated feature of the PU for me. Just see them open majestically and fly into the black.... :)

Have you played the 1.1.2 PTU Tutorial? You'll fly out of the Astroid Hangar, led by a NPC. :)

Not yet. I'm not moving to PTU this time. I'll wait for the official update. Can't wait. Yessssssssssssssssss ;D

It can't take that long, I suspect it will be here by the end of next week (maybe, probably) if no gamebreaking bugs are found.
