Best Long Lasting HDD?

I'm putting a HDD in a aunts computer and I was wondering what would be best. Seagate SSHD, WD Black/Green/Blue or WD Se or Seagate Barracuda?

 

 

Just need something reliable thats gonna last for years.

I'd say the WD Black too. But it seems that the WD Red Pro has been referred by a few friends of mine. Anyone know the difference?

I thought the Red was meant for RAID so its probably just a bit beefier.

If she is going for simple regular usage, I would say WD Blue would be the more appropriate drive. WD Black is a good performance drive with longer warranty and designed to sustain harsher environments and heavier workloads, but might be a bit overkill. I would choose between these two drives.

Yeah I would also just say stick a Blue in there, you also have no way of knowing if the rest of the PC is going to last for years so whats the point in overkilling the HDD.

Even the best enterprise drive might fail after a month (it's not likely, but there

are no guarantees). So instead of spending tons of money on an expensive drive (be

it the Black or even an enterprise one such as the RE), I'd agree with @Captain_WD

and recommend a more modest alternative, if possbible.

If there is going to be important data on the drive, I'd say you can then invest the

money saved on an external backup drive, that's still going to be much safer than a

single expensive drive.

I'm wondering... why do you guys all rank the WD Black drives highest in endurance, even higher than the WD Se (an enterprise level drive, after all) that the OP also listed? (Not saying he needs one of those)

My guess would be that most of the time people don't take enterprise drives into account when

giving this sort of advice since they're out of the price range for most folks (same as with

CPUs, GPUs etc., Xeons and Quadros don't usually get recommended for regular builds). But yes,

valid point, if you really want to go for the top, often you'd need to go for enterprise components.

I probably wouldn't recommend enterprise drives for most users, but the OP himself specifically asked for the WD Se as well in his list of possible drives. That's what surprised me - not that people don't generally recommend them (since I'd probably forget to mention them as well).

That is why I said WD Red if you can becuase of my personal experience with them as well the the way that reviewers rate them. Also Yes enterprise level drives will do better, but they also have features that many users don't care/worry about like be able to jam 40 of them in a 4u or 5u server and not worry about them.
