No backstory, just want to know, what is an external thread and how do i find how many i have.  I am fairly sure that this is a cpu thing but if i is not, please forgive me.  i have an AMD Athlon II X3 445 (i know its really old, im getting a new PC)  can someone tell me how to find how many threads this has?  any help would be appreciated.

I've never heard of an external thread.

A thread is basically a pipeline for the CPUs work.

My i7-4790k has 8 threads and 4 cores.

Each core has two pipelines because my CPU has hyperthreading.

your cpu supports up to 3 threads. with amd athlons, the x number is how many cores it has, each core can support 1 thread on amd.
