Android Kit kat or Lollipop?

My Moto G is coming via mail tomorrow and I heard that upgrading to lollipop might not be such a great idea, not sure of credibility but I've heard: Less battery, slower boot times, and launching apps sometimes takes longer. I have no knowledge of phones any-more so if someone could tell me what I should do, that would be appreciated, my main concern is the battery, is it really shorter on newer firmware?

i actually love lolipop, my only problem thus far is that its ugly. everything is so bright and cheery..fills me with rage. but i fixed that with a custom skin. so now its mostly perfect.

i think my boot times are a little slower, but the only time i ever turn off my phone is when im updating so that doesnt bother me. i havent noticed my battery being drained any faster(although its plugged in all day anyways), but the apps are certainly faster to open than before.

for reference im using a galaxy s4 running CyanogenMod nightlys for android 5.0.2 so my experiance could be a bit different than stock android

In theory Lollipop increases battery life, has faster boot times overall (due to ART runtime)

In practice...it often decreases battery life or it stays the same.
