I frost the CPU like a cake. (/s) Also the differences are vastly overstated. Worst case you're talking ~5c difference, and that's if you're utterly incompetent.

Okay... I use the spread method.. I'm not very concerned about the air bubbles that everyone else is.

But seriously I think it has an advantage because it covers the whole cpu lid in thermal paste whereas the pea method might not spread the paste to cover the entire lid.

The reasoning it that you'll get better heat transfer if the whole lid is covered instead of part of it.. but when I do use the spread method I do try to make it super thin and as even as I possibly can. It takes a gentle touch and an artist like skill to pull this off.

I've pondered ways to apply thermal compound that use the spread method by mixing it with rubbing alcohol and using one of those tiny foam paint rollers to get it evenly spread.. Mayne you could get a similar result to those factory heatsinks that come with the thermal compound perfectly and evenly apllied..which imo is probably the best possible application of thermal paste.. but I've never tried this method myself so I don't know if that will work.
