So i'm starting amy new workstation build. As i'd like to keep all my design programs, and designs on a separate computer of my gaming computer. I'm setting a budget of 3000$. I am currently making a deal with a man on another forum for a 3930K for 400$ so we're set on a processor. For now at least. This build will be used 100% for AutoCad, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Premier. I wish for it to be silent. Here's what i'm thinking:

3930K - 400$ BNIB

P9X79-Pro - 319$

32GB of Corsair Vengeance Black 1600Mhz, 4x8GB Formation - 254$

Noctua NH-D14 - 99$

Seasonic X-850 - 214$

Intel 520 Series 180GB SSD - 219$

2x2TB WD RED @ 7200RPM - 119$ x2

CM Storm Trooper - 154$

Quadro 4000 - 830$

For a grand total of 2729$

For a total with Taxes of 3083.77$

I think that sounds pretty good for a mobile, silence optimized, power efficient workstation build.

Tell me your thoughts?

For mobility, I'd probably go with a micro-atx case.

As for the hdds, get the 3TB models if you want a quiet system. The 3TB's have thicker enclosures that make the drives near silent.

I'd get lower profile ram so it wouldn't get in the way of the NH-D14.

I'm a large young man. Carrying an ATX/Eatx Case is no big deal. I'll looking into the 3TB models. I forgot all about the RAM height. I'll change those to the low profile editions.

Thanks for the feedback.

Why do you go with WD instead of Seagate? I heard WD WILL crap out after a while.

WD Reds are quite good and the 3TB models are nearly silent due to an extra thick enclosure.

Yeah, so are the Seagate Barracudas.

Oh you son of a b****, i can't believe you would say that crap. If anything, that Western Digital crap will not last, I guarantee.

Hey no need to yell, we all have different opinions on these things...

Regarding the build though, i would get a smaller wattage power supply since you will not need that much, so a sesonic X-750 will definetly suffice.
Otherwise it all looks good :D
You should do a build log on this build as well.

Reds are optimized for NAS use. And their RPM varies, but is usually around 5400. If this is going to be a workstation than he should go for Blacks, since they're 7200rpm (higher performance), and have a 5 year warranty.

Also, the rate of failure gets exponential after 1TB drives, 2TB drives have abit more than double the failure rates IIRC.

Calm down. Both of the companies are good. And it's not "crap" he's speaking from (what I'm assuming) personal experience and he is stating that he's had more Seagate drives fail.

Both companies have near identical failure rates IIRC.

Wow man, they're hard drives, it's not like i killed your first born. Breathe. I know Reds are optimized for NAS's however i like them, and can get them for cheaper. I'll look into the black drives though.

I'll change the PSU to the X-750. I just wanted a little head room in case i was to upgrade a part. I was also giving myself some headroom for down the road when i'll OC to get better performance. I'm going to be starting this build on the 27th when i get the processor. Shall be a nice birthday present :)

I will for sure do a build log!

Thanks for the help guys.

Black drives can be quite loud and you don't need them if you already have an ssd.

A seagate barracuda/WD Red would be a better option.

If you are only going 1 gpu, a 600w will be plenty.

I wan this build to be near silent. I'll be replacing all the case fans and any fans in the build with Noctua's. I also plan to get an H100I just to keep things neat, clean, and quieter. So 600W it is.

I think i'm going to go with an LGA 2011 M-ATX board. So i can get a smaller case.
