Gaming PC for about 1100€ (1196USD/1455CAD)

Hey guys!

A friend of mine asked me if I could build him a gaming PC. The PC will be used mostly for gaming and maybe some MS Word  ;) He said he would like to have an Intel CPU and a Nvidia GPU. A monitor (1080p @60hz) and other pheripherals are existing. A while ago I've build 2 PC's, but I'm not 100% up to date with PC hardware  :( But I've choosen some parts and maybe you guys have some ideas to make the whole thing "better" or more optimized  :D

1. CPU: Intel Core i5-4460

2. Mainboard: ASRock H97 Pro 4

3. RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB DDR3-1600

4. PSU: Cooler Master G550M

5. CPU cooler: EKL Alpenföhn Brocken ECO

6. Case: NZXT Source 530

7. GPU: Asus GTX 970 4GB (or better 3,5GB + 500MB  :P

8. HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200RPM

9. SSD: Crucial MX100 256GB

Thanks for your help!

Greetings from Munich/Germany

-either get an oc'able cpu or a 1231V3 ( depends on the $$ of the xeon )

-If you want to save some $$ , maybe go for a 290/290x

Otherwise , the build is great , ssd, hdd, etc seem well chosen .

First at all thank you for your fast answer!

The Problem with the 1231V3 is that its (at least here in Germany) ~100€ more expensive.

And I also thaught about an AMD GPU, but he had some bad experience with his AMD GPU.

Maybe i can talk to him about the budget for a better CPU! Is the difference between i5 4460 and Xeon E3 noticeable?

There's yet any significant different between the i5 and Xeon in gaming

Ok thank you guys! I'll try to push his budget a bit, maybe selling some old hardware, so that he can afford the Xeon.

No need really ;

I bought a xeon because it was 211€ for the xeon vs 205 for the i5

You will not see a big difference ;

But if you can get a small extra for a oc able CPU and a Z97 , then you might see a good difference .

Otherwise stick with the current setup .

That was my thougt, but the friend for whom I'm building the PC don't whant to do any OC

So I think I'll stick with the i5 except I can find an "cheap" Xeon

Personally I think you should get an 850 evo or mx200.

Thanks, I didn't recognize that the MX100 only writes with only 150 MB/s!

I just changed some parts:

Because i couldnt find a cheap Xeon, I'll stay with the i5

In the PC my friend currently uses is a Thermaltake Berlin 630W and I thought I could use this instead of the cm g550m in his new PC (I've read some good and some bad things about the Thermaltake PSU so I'm not sure if this is a good choise)

I switched from the Source 530 to the h440

And the MX200 instead of the MX100

The only thing I'm a bit worried about is the Thermaltake PSU, so it would be great to here your opinion about it  :)
