Losing Other Drives`

Go to solution Solved by Captain_WD,

Hello!  I am replacing my mobo from a z87 to a z97 I have Windows 7 installed on my SSD and all my my games, music, movies etc on platters.  I am going to attempt to not reinstall windows.  However, if I end up doing a clean install of windows on the SSD will I have to format the platters?

Hey Gwydion1917,

It is strongly advised to do reinstall the OS after swapping hardware due to compatibility issues. You can create a system repari disk and a system image and then restore it on the SSD after you swap the motherboards. It should restore everything from your boot partition including all the drivers, registry, etc. and the programs and games that are installed on other physical drives shouldn't be affected. Here's a link with more info: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/restore-computer-from-system-image-backup#1TC=windows-7

You should be able to freely use all your other drives even if you do a clean install of the OS. :)
