My friend adam in wisconsin can't watch like anything online, youtube, twitch.tv, vimeo all lags for him, even at 360p, he has a macbook, and he's on apple OS 10.6.8.

He says everything online has issues and stutters or doesn't even load if it's a video, even at very low qualities.

I don't know anything about MAC or I'd try to help him :s

here's his speedtest, I don't think its his net, unless they're throttling him or something.

You probably have H.264 to thank for that.

Test it out by running (locally from the hard-drive) an HD (1080p) video that uses the H.264 encoder and see if it lags.

If it does then it's a hardware constraint.

Could be the CPU throttling, might be due to a power saving settings or a most common reason is over-heating,

or simply because his system doesn't have a dedicated H.264 decoder chip.

He tried that and said it kept crashing, IDK lol. When I told him to update his OSX he said it'd just make his comp slower, I guess its a lost cause, he has a brand new PC at his house waiting to be put together that I told him to buy, but he won't do it until his brother shows up -.-

Not sure how it could get slower... My friend of mine has a Core 2 Duo Macbook pro with the latest OSX and it runs just fine. 5400RPM HDD.

Are there other computers/devices on the same internet connection with uploads or downloads or P2P running? It could also be his wireless channel's local interference. Use wifi-analyzer on android to check that.

When you say YouTube lags, is it the video stopping to buffer or is it the actual video that is stuttering? If the video is buffering just fine then id say its your browser/flash. If it isn't stuttering and its buffering instead then could you plug it direct into the router and see if that solves it?
