Over the past 2-3 weeks I have noticed my computer develop a louder than normal high pitched sound. I thought it might be a fan or something but it is not. It seems to only happen once or twice an hour for about 5 min, then it stops and I only hear the fans moving. Any ideas on what this might be?

I couldn't hear anything on the clip aside from fans. Is it coming from your hard drive bays? It could be a drive malfunctioning. Just a thought.

It is on the right side so maybe, and didn't figure my phone would pic it up. I have an old 80 GB drive in there so maybe it is finally dying.

Okay just unplugged the power to the drive and the sound is gone. Seems it was the drive

Well, it sucks that your drive is toasting, but at least we got it resolved for you.

I saw this over in the Hot Deals section. 3Tb drive for $80.00. Seems like it would be a good replacement for you. I wouldn't use that drive again until you can back up all of your data.

It was a hackintosh drive and it is old as hell, my father bought it over I think 10 years ago. Will have to figure out how to migrate it to a 500 gb drive, found an extra one of them when cleaning about a week ago.

Frankly I'd just pull anything you want off of it onto an external and migrate it once you have a new disk. And not even that if it is a free program.

It is a paid program, but I can re-download it, just need project files and final outputs from it.
