Been on the lookout for a while. Tried to win few auctions but no luck. Any suggestion where to might I buy it? My budget is around 300 GBP, but might go up to 400 if it comes with cpus. My current build is down below.
Is it worth upgrading to evga sr2 or should I just buy two 6 core xeons?
There are two reason why I want that board. 1. OC xeon. 2. Sata3. 6cores xeon is a beast of an overclocker and my current board only has sata 2.
I jump around the bottleneck buy having ssd in raid0, but still it's not perfect.

Regards,
Mark

Because it is quite old you'll struggle mate. Keep an eye on auction sites is all I can think of for that.

May I ask why you want two 6 core Xeons?

You're willing to spend up to £400 on a board and you haven't got the CPU's yet. I'd just buy a Z97 mate and install a Core i7-4790K but then again a pair of Gulftown Xeons would be cool as well.

Not so sure anymore, but i think Xeons are the only compatible dual cpus. The main reason is the price. I can get 2x 6core x5650 for 100GBP. I need them for rendering and the more cores I have the faster the workflow. I'm willing to spend 300 on the board alone as upgrading to lga2011 is too expensive for a max 30% improvement in performance. x5650 can OC to 4.7Ghz so even having two at 4ghz will be more powerful than stock lga2011 6core xeon

If you are rendering it may be worth looking into the Core i7-5820K and a decent X99 board. Also you'll need DDR4 RAM which I think has come down a little in price but if you were to go down the Core i7-4790K route it would be pretty decent at rendering mate. And yes you're right, it is only the Xeon's that can be installed together though I think there was a Core 2 Quad Extreme that could also be dualled up.
