Cd collection management software

My dad has quite a big cd collection and we finally began organizing them.
But we are looking for some software to catalog it.
The cds will be in a rack against the wall, we would like to have them numbered and have that same number in the software. The software must have a search function and it has to be able to give that same number of the cd so we can find it easily.
It's nice if the software isn't to complicated and looks simple, but it's not necessary.
Anybody an idea?

If it's just a combination of ID's and names you can either try a database program (MS Acces for the brainwashed) or a spreadsheet method (MS Excel for the brainwashed). Most of these types of software have a built-in search function.

Alternatively, the coolest thing to do would be to write your own little software.
Many languages should easily allow this...

Have you thought about converting them all to FLAC or some other lossless format? That's what I'd do.

Anyways, LibreOffice (which is free) has a database called Base whichi is like Access. The simplest route would be an Excel spreadsheet.

A plugin for WinAmp or MediaMonkey for this purpose would be ballin'

Iam gonna be very hated right now xD But u use delicious library for my Game collection. Its Mac only but i love it.
