Good keyboard?

Go to solution Solved by brokencross,

If you don't want to pay premium for Filco or Ducky go CMStorm. They're really solid.

Linus seems to like it. And Ive owned 3 Razer keyboards and 5 Razer mice and never had any problems. They are more expensive than other options (and I admit much of that is for looks)

But razer stuff is some of the ugliest shit I've ever seen in my life. I have a K70 RGB and mine works fine, never had an LED issue, the software is so so you can just download profiles if you're to lazy to do it yourself like I am. The LED's freeze sometimes and you have to switch the thing on the back for 10 seconds and switch it back and it will fix that issue, although I believe they are coming out with a new update that fixes this. The K70 also looks amazing compared to something like the Razer Chroma. Also blues sound amazing at first, but for me I had to get rid of them, people always complained in skype about how loud they were and to mute my mic. I have reds now and they do feel a bit mushy compared to blues or browns, but they do well, even with my heavy fingers that always miss type keys on other keyboards. The media controls are also nice on the K70 and the quick windows lock button. You don't have macros like you do on some other keyboards but you can change any key to do pretty much anything. Since the K70 has raised keys and isn't mounted right next to some cheap plastic (I'm looking at you razer) it makes the keyboard so much easier to clean if you tend to drop stuff into your keys or even if you have long hair that falls in the keys. I know the K70 isn't sold in blue switches anymore but browns are still good, and like I said before blues get kind of annoying after a while, and they annoy people if you are gaming with them.

Do you have any objective info to substantiate these claims of quality?

Personal experience with a lot of keyboards of different brands. You can always visit the mechanical keyboards subreddit if you wanna know more.

Filco is essentially built like a tank and as heavy as one.

Corsair has nice boards but the rgb line isn't fully rgb and suffers from terrible esd issues caused by that aluminium board. Really thin ABS keycaps as well and dodgy media controls.

CMStorm has a really nice and solid build quality but mediocre abs keycaps. It's on par with Ducky, even though Ducky prices are always a bit higher because there's always less available so it's a lot more exclusive.

Steelseries keyboards are well built as well, but almost no switch variety. I think the 6G and the 7G are available only in mx red and black.

Das Keyboard is great as well, but I hate the design of the boards.

Yes the chroma one lets you control the lighting. And its the most solid feeling keyboard Ive ever owned. Whatever that says to you... lol

Well I know that... The Chroma is my problem, it uses cheap Chinese made copies of Cherry MX switches. I originally wanted it but now that I've heard about some quality issues, I want to avoid the chroma as much as possible.

I'm going to punch your face- IN THE FACE.

Heck, if what you say is true about filcos being built like tanks, then I might as well get one. My PC is going to be military themed anyways. :3 I need backlit keys though.

After looking around I actually found out Roccat is coming out with an RGB version of their amazing Roccat Ryos MK Pro. So I will just wait for the release of it. I opted to purchase the Logitech G710 with browns as a temporary solution after reading positive feedback! ^_^ It seems solid, and is less than the CM storm and ducky products.
